"Bringing Schwarzenbach: Neo-Romanticism, the Absurd, and Whether Them Motherfuckers Do, in Fact, Know How to [ɑ]ct"

In my film class, we’ve just read this highly eloquent essay from Vito Russo’s “The Celluloid Closet: Homosexuality in the Movies,” and I’ve uploaded it here, for anyone who finds the ongoing hijinks of Holly-“No Homo”-wood to be of some interest.  He gets enormous bonus points for discussing “Rope,” and for informing us that Greta Garbo once expressed a desire to play a version of Dorian Gray ”with herself in the title role and Marylin Monroe as a young girl ruined by Dorian”… a film whose nonexistence I will never stop sobbing over.

(With full “tw: homophobia” caveats.)
